Why do spinning objects make audible ‘woosh’

Why do spinning objects always seem to make some sort of higher pitched ‘woosh’? Why does a bendy tube make weirder tones compared to just spinning a rope? Why does drag create noise?

Because the spinning object is making contact with the air and the tiny imperfections on the surface of the object create sound waves in the air the same way your finger would if you were to swirl it around in water.

Noise is air being moved.

Something moving through the air, will also move the air. [A visualization of air moving around a sphere.](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/260045652/figure/fig7/AS:671505998417924@1537110914476/Smoke-visualisation-and-flow-topology-of-the-airflow-around-a-cylinder.ppm)
