Why do the British call it “maths”?

British people say all kinds of things funny. have you heard them pronounce the letter ‘H’? like wut are y’all doing?
You can have one mathematic equation. The “s” on the end is not part of the noun.
You can shorten the term to “one math equation”
The field of study is known as Mathematics.
“I am studying maths”
They speak a strange dialect of English and just make things up as they go. That’s like questioning a homeless man’s mumblings.
It’s actually American English that shortens it in a nonstandard way. Compare:
Mathematics -> Maths (BrE), Math (AmE)
Statistics -> Stats (BrE), Stats (AmE)
On this topic, why is it Quick Math instead of Quick Maths ?

It’s just Americans that say Math. In NZ and Australia we say “Maths” too. It’s because the full word is plural – “Mathematics”
Because Mathematics has a lot of domains of study in it like calculus, algebra, geometry…etc. I’m neither British nor American and we also abbreviate it to Maths in my language.
