Why do things make a sound when they break?

Energy holds things together. When things break that energy is released and makes the parts vibrate creating sounds
When something breaks, it starts by bending. Once it can’t bend any more, it breaks. Then, the two sides of the break try to snap back to their original position. They’ll overshoot and flex back and forth a couple of times. This all happens very quickly. As the thing flexes, it pushes and pulls the air very quickly. Pushing and pulling the air is all the sound is really, so it just makes a small but very intense burst of sound.
