Why do those psychological evaluations ask if you want to be a park ranger?

It could be something along the lines of “Do you want to work at a national park?” or something, I’m having trouble remembering since it’s been a long time since I’ve taken one, but the park question has puzzled me and my brothers for years.

They’re trying to see if you’re actually reading the questions or not. As an example, imagine you’re you’re a doctor screening someone for a disease. You ask them to rate various symptoms on a scale of 1 to 5. If they really do have that condition, then they might answer 5 on every question. The problem arises in that someone who doesn’t understand the form, can’t read it properly, or who is just answering 5 to everything so they can be done as fast as possible would give you the same result. You can solve that problem by throwing in a few nonsense questions like asking them to rate how much they’d enjoy being a park ranger. The person who actually has the disease and is reading the survey will answer that question truthfully, while the other person will just put down a 5 on all your nonsense questions and set off your red flags.
