why do we come up with ideas or realize things why we’re in the shower?

At a guess, it’s kind of like when you’re trying to sleep and your brain is spinning freely. You’re not doing anything that requires attention, so your mind wanders and pokes at things that interested it at some point out another, but didn’t have the leisure to work on because you were driving or walking or working and that took attention.

I guess it’s because other than that we are always looking at something like social media, tv, books etc. It’s the only time our brains doesn’t trying to process/focus on anything. When you stop doing all that you start to thinking.

It’s a time during which your brain isn’t engaged with consuming new information or sensory input. It’s essentially a form of meditation and it’s not too different from the concept of a sensory deprivation tank wherein you’re placed floating in a completely darkened environment to free your mind of distraction.

You’ll note that if you listen to the radio while showering, especially something like news radio, your brain will be engaged with listening to the audio and you don’t have as many random thoughts.

It’s sensory deprivation, by reducing the complexity of the tasks you are currently working on it allows you to wonder a little.

Sir Richard Branson is famous for having his best ideas in the bath, same reasoning, presumably this was before smart phones distracting said concentration
