Why do we feel cold after waking up forcibly (like from an alarm) but it’s more manageable if we wake up naturally?

Yesterday, I woke up after 3h of sleep with an alarm to go to work. It felt as if my ass would fall off from the cold. Today, I had slept enough and woke up before the alarm, and I found it much easier and not nearly as cold.

Your body temperature drops as you fall asleep, and slowly rises in the 30 minutes or so during which you normally begin to awaken. If you wake up from a dead sleep you’re likely to be a bit colder, all other factors such as time of day and ambient temp being equal.
