when you eat, your body diverts blood flow to your digestive system to help process the food. this shift in blood flow can make you feel sleepy. additionally, certain foods like those high in carbs or tryptophan can increase production of serotonin, which can make you drowsy. lastly, the act of eating itself can be relaxing, signaling to your body that it’s time to rest.
