Why do we have to learn algebra and how do people use it in our daily life?

One interesting observation: many technical fields have a long *sequence* of prerequisites, whereas non-technical fields are based more on breadth of knowledge. If you decided in your sophomore year to major in physics, it might be difficult to satisfy all the prerequisites, but if you decide to major in literature you could take many courses at once.
Maybe because of this, students are required to take certain math courses, just in case.
