Why do we move forwards when we sneeze? Shouldn’t our bodies move backwards?

The sneeze’s forward movement and the sneeze’s exhalation are actually the same thing; we move forward as we sneeze in order to create the strongest exhalation as possible by using as many muscles as possible. The diaphragm moves like normal breathing, but our backs, stomach, and shoulders curling in also shrinks the lung’s area at the same time, making an even faster/stronger exhalation. It just so happens that the curling in looks like moving forward.

After all, the air we expel might be moving very fast but its mass is so much less than any part of our body that it doesn’t have the kinetic energy to move our head any noticeable amount.
