Why do we still have teeth? Why haven’t they been replaced by an artificial substitute?

With all the problems that teeth create I would assume that it’d make more sense to get rid of them and instead have something that will be easier to clean, replace and take care of.

Do you mean evolutionarily? Because most people don’t have big problems with teeth until they’re past child bearing age.

And even that has more to do with sugar that anything else

Two reasons: people don’t want to have every tooth in their mouth pulled to get artificial teeth, and also tooth paste is a lot cheaper.

There are, they’re called dentures, and are more of a mess to clean and take care of than regular teeth. There’s also many possible complications that come from the surgery necessary to install them. So forcing everyone to do it is just silly, especially when you can just brush your teeth and be fine.

Some people *do* opt for artificial replacements for various reasons – sometimes it’s cosmetic, sometimes it’s because their natural teeth are too decayed or worn down or got knocked out.

It costs money to do this. It’s way more cost effective for people to… just have proper oral hygiene and brush their teeth and maybe floss regularly and avoid drinking sugary drinks than it is going through a bunch of teeth extractions and replacing them with inserts that themselves will get damaged with time and need replacement.

We have artificial substitutes. They’re way more expensive to receive and annoying to maintain than just practicing basic oral hygiene for the average person. Tech is working on how to reduce price, surgery risks and maintenance problems but it’s not cheap and it takes a while to research these things. People aren’t exactly lining up to be lab rats and partake in experimental dental surgeries to replace their teeth with unproven experimental substitutes.

Nothing is more ideal than keeping your natural teeth. Getting them pulled and getting dentures if it’s not absolutely necessary is a mistake. Healthy teeth and roots have a blood supply. When you lose teeth, you will have bone loss in your jaw.
