Why do we suck on bleeding wounds like finger cuts?

Licking (more than sucking) wounds is commonly observed in animal kingdom. The saliva is actually a great pain killer and is very effective on open wounds.

It’s an evolutionary instinct so that we clean it before it clots. Many animals do the same thing (with licking).

It keeps the blood from making as big a mess. Blood is very hard to clean out of things. The clotting process will fix the tear, so it just a little time that you have to tend to it before the body automatically gets the problem under control.
