why does a freshwater fish die In the sea and visa-versa? I’m assuming it’s due to salt but why?

If you put a freshwater fish into saltwater it basically dehydrates to death as it can’t process the salt out of the water fast enough to effectively use the water.
If you put a saltwater fish in the freshwater it basically dies from lack of electrolytes. I don’t want to say that it drowns but it’s taking in too much water and not enough salt.
