Why does a iron dumbell feel heavier than polymer dumbell of same weight?

Are they identic in terms of gemoetry? I will guess the polymer dumbell might have a thicker handle and the weight center closer to your palm.
It’s like holding a hammer from it’s handle or from the iron side.
