Why does a person vomit if he/she sees a gory scene? What kind of defence mechanism is the body puttin up?

Vomiting is your body ejecting something it perceived as harmful.
So if you ate poisonous berries, you would puke them out before they cause more harm.

If somebody in your tribe (think cavemen times) puked, you probably ate the same food and the sooner you can get it out of your body, the better.

It’s the same for yawning.
When someone in your tribe yawns and goes to sleep, you should do the same.
