Why does an ear piercing sometimes migrate lower and lower on the earlobe?

I’ve seen an ear piercing that started out in the middle of the lobe and ended up working it’s way down so it looked like it was just held in by a thin bit of skin. Why and how does that happen?

People who are saying gravity are right, but it’s not just that.

It’s a combination of really heavy hoop earrings, with very thin wire to go through the ear.

For 15-18 years I wore some heavyish hoops, but I also wore thick hoops. Like 2-3mm, rather than 0.2-0.3mm. It makes all the difference.

Mine never migrated, as the weight over the surface area was much much lower.
