Why does brushing your teeth make you feel less tired?

For example, you’d be sleepy late at night and you’d brush your teeth before going to bed and all of a sudden that sleepiness is gone.

It could be a personal conditioned response to the taste of the toothpaste. If you used to only brush in the morning, you could subconsciously associate the taste of the paste with the morning. Otherwise, I’d suggest it could be something in the flavor, like mint, that just happens to perk you up because there is flavor and sensation in your mouth.

Mint is known to be rejuvenating and invigorating. Also, it’s a lot of stimulation going on in your mouth, so that probably gets our brain going as well. Maybe brushing your teeth an hour before bed instead of right before you go to sleep would help.

It could also be the lighting of the bathroom — if your bathroom is super well lit, the light entering your eyes can make your brain think it’s daytime all of a sudden and you’ll start to be more awake
