Why does bug spray like OFF only affect bugs like mosquitos, ticks, fleas but not ants or flies.

They mostly work by masking your exhaled CO2. This is what mosquitos, ticks and fleas detect to find prey. Ants do not bite you for food not do they hunt this way.
