Why does defrosting a windscreen with both hot and cold air work?

Shouldn’t only one work and the other make it worse?

Frost and fog aren’t the same form of water. Defrosting means heat will work better as it melts the frost which is ice, and is outside the car. Fog just needs dry air blown against it to remove the accumulated moisture, which isn’t frozen aka fog, which is usually on the inside of the car. That can be done with cool or hot air because the a/c is removing moisture from the air blown on it.
