Essentially all your energy goes to your belly who now has the big job of breaking down, sorting, and distributing all that food.

You go into rest and digest mode, your parasympathetic nervous system kicks on conserving energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastrointestinal tract. Also a lot of blood gets diverted towards digestion to help everything move around and provide oxygen.

Mother evolution found this to be very useful for proper nutritional extraction. This is also the real reason people get tired at Thanksgiving.
