It should semi-wake into a low power mode so that you can see how far the charge has gotten and decide whether to take it off the charger or not.

Other devices use a more simple LED light to show in-process or completed charging, but you can only get very basic information with a few lights, and no estimated time for completion. Since phones are used all day and charged often all night, more information is better.

Most of these low power modes don’t go into the operating system at all, and only activate basic sensors to do things like recognize taps on the screen.
