Taste is 65%+ smell. Warm food has enough energy to expel more moisture from its surface as it cools. This moisture contains a lot of ‘smell’ molecules, and thus it ‘tastes’ stronger as a result

You know how you can smell food more easily when it’s hot? Heat stirs up the aromatic parts of food and gets more of them into the air.

A lot of taste is actually smell. Bite something while holding your nose and it will be relatively bland.

Cold food has less aromatic compounds coming off of it, so we can’t experience them as taste or smell.
