Liquid gasoline is not flammable, the vapor is what is flammable, so the vapor evaporates leaving non combustible vapors.

Regular fuel contains a lot of aromatics, ethanol (most of the time) and lots of additives like detergents to ‘clean’ your fuel system. Use Alkylate fuel (like Aspen or aviation fuel if you can get it) for more shelf life. I put it in my garden machinery for the last run of the season and never have any issues the next time I use it.
Car gas is garbage but we use it so fast, we don’t really notice.

I actually had no idea this was a thing until it was mentioned in one of the episodes of “The Last of Us”. It’s honestly amazing what a person can learn simply from observing media around them.
