Why does it feel better to listen to music loudly than at a lower volume?

It’s due to relative volume of frequency.

At low volumes, we don’t hear all frequencies at the same level. Our ability to hear low frequencies like the deep bass of a techno track or bass guitar is not as good as hearing higher sounds like guitar solos or screaming vocals.

However, as the volume increases our ability to process the low frequencies becomes similar to that of higher frequencies.

There are also physical sensations which also play a part with listening through speakers as to headphones. Like when you stand near the speakers at a gig.

Hearing loss is a real thing. Don’t start blasting all your music!
