Why does it feel good to scratch an ich when you can potentially damage your skin?

Like imagine you have an ich on your arm. You scratch it and damage that area of the skin. Wouldn’t your body tell you to stop doing that?

Our touch sense isn’t precise and because of that our brain often has trouble discerning between different sensory inputs from the same place on your body. When you scratch an itch you are causing a different sensation(of mild pain and heat) in the same place, which is masking the itching feeling temporarily, resulting in you feeling relief that it “stopped”.
