It feels like common knowledge now that you’re supposed to vary your sitting posture while you’re sitting to remain healthy. But a lot of the confusion going on is because that is fairly recent. I’m only in my early twenties but when I was in highschool, I remember being taught that while working on a computer you MUST sit up perfectly straight with feet flat on the floor, elbows at your side, and arms floating off the table. I was told if you don’t do that, you will forever damage your spine.
The only one of those I still do is keeping my arms floating slightly to keep my wrists straight, and it’s nice to know now that what I was already doing is the healthiest. I was never able to maintain that perfect posture because I was too fidgety, and now being fidgety while sitting is supported by science.
