Like it’s +8°C here and we are getting tiny pellets of hail but during winters it’s just light and fluffy snow. Why would it form iceballs in warmer weather but not when it’s like -20°C

When it’s cold there isn’t enough updraft to keep the droplets accumulating ice (forming balls) before the fall
That’s why in winter we get sleet but not hail
Because hail requires powerful storms to form which blows tiny balls of water into the upper atmosphere where they freeze then fall down then get blown back up again where they get bigger and bigger until the updraft can no longer keep them up. These powerful storms feed on warm moist air which is not present during the winter.
