Fingers and hands have a crazy amount of nerve endings. Benefit? We can feel tiny differences in textures and make amazing movements and grasp and pinch and do all the things that allow us to change our environments to meet our desires and needs. Downside? Hit your thumb with a hammer or get a papercut on an Amazon box, and your kid learns new words.
