I was at a wedding recently and everyone cried while doing of the speeches when it got to their sincere part of their speech. It has got me curious since it happened about why it happens. Someone passing away or a breakup makes sense to me because it’s a type of actual loss that you won’t have again.

Crying is a social signal, among other things. Laughter is a signal that something is not taken seriously, tears are a signal that something’s taken very seriously. Sharing heartfelt things is a serious showing of vulnerability.
Edit: crying is also a release of tension, which often happens when laying bare things that may have gone unsaid for a long time.
