Why does mucous feel slimy just out of your nose but when rubbed between fingers, turns more rubbery?

Probably like kneading dough. Over time it gets dryer because you’re exposing lots of it to the air. Also dead skin and dirt will be introduced and make it denser. Perhaps heat from friction too helps it lose moisture.
