Why does music sound different when headbobbing?

120 viewsOther

Whenever I’m listening to certain songs, they’ll sound different if I’m bobbing my head back and forth than if I listen to them normally. Hard to describe, the notes and high points of a song just sound way more impactful. Do we know why this is?

I think what’s going on here is more subjective than some scientific reason that would make the sound be different while moving. We humans (and lots of other animals) have an affinity towards rhythm. We like making it, and we like moving with it. You don’t need to teach a child to dance to music: they’ll just start bouncing to the beat all on their own.

Sound is one of those things where your mindset and attitude and feelings influence how it is experienced. My bet here is that you just… feel good while you’re moving to the music, and it makes the whole sensation more enjoyable.
