If you breathe, you start to smell the food.

Smelling is an important part of tasting the food.

Just like food taste different when you have a cold and can’t smell, not breathing affect your taste too

Smell and taste have a strong connection, so if you’re eating something and smelling it at the same time your brain groups both of those in as being the taste of the food. If you don’t breath you can’t smell it, so it seems to taste different
