The human is a social being. Just as in animals, there is natural selection on humans, and long time ago just the ones who lived in a society were able to survive. Through evolution of the mind the human development a response to being asocial, because of the big advantage that being social offered. The feelings of loneliness, depression, social anxiety and desire to fit in are all things enforced by your brain so you adjust your social skills to thrive. Same thing applies when you loose a social connection, or a friend.
