Allergy season… Why does one nostril is blocked mainly at a time and not both? Also what’s the best way to clear a stuffy nostril?

Nasal cycling is what its called. And basically it means your body switches nostril once every few hours.

Pretty neat, as it keeps your ability to smell at the body’s best level – as all the receptors in one part of the nose is never blocked or overstimulated. – so it gives it a rest once in a while.

But its really annoying when sick. I agree.

Because it’s not just snot blocking your nose. The passages also narrow to stop whatever irritant or disease getting in. But your body isn’t stupid, so it keeps one of them open to breathe through. That’s why if you sleep on your side with a cold, it’s usually the side you’re sleeping on that’s blocked and the top side that’s open.
