Why does relief after pain feel so much better than if everything is working fine?

I’m currently fighting a stomach bug and throwing up is bringing me sweet relief, but I know throwing up isnt making my stomach better than its normal state.

Right?

It removes the noxious stimulus that is causing you discomfort. The bad food or bacteria waste is activating sensory nerves that travel to your brain and your brain is processing the signal as discomfort/pain/annoying. When you throw up that food/waste/whatever that’s activating your sensory nerves, the nerve will no longer be activated and no longer send the signal to the brain to process so you stop processing the discomfort.

The only way anything can feel like anything is in comparison to something else. The more dramatic the comparison, the more intense a difference we experience.

Pretty much a fundamental rule about our reality.
