Yeah dont bloody know, sold something in the uk on ebay, sent to canada for £15, guy wanted to return it, cost me £55 to send it back and it never arrived

Import taxes. Anything traveling internationally has to have import fees and taxes paid. Importing into the EU simply has higher taxes and fees than the US.
