Why does soda make that sizzle sound when it hasn’t been opened in a while?

The can or bottle is pressurized in order to saturate the beverage with as much carbon dioxide gas as possible. Even after it’s been opened once, gas will escape the beverage and re-pressurize the bottle until it’s opened again.
