Why does some lightning happen in a blink of an eye and other bolts develop almost slow-motion like

i’m not a scientist but i know a little science, i think its got something to do with how far away the lightning is, the further away it is the longer it will appear and the closer it is the quicker it will be i could be totally wrong though there could be different types of lightning
