You salivate when you’re nauseous to help dilute acidic stomach contents that’s about to come up, and which could damage your teeth and soft tissue in your mouth.

That feeling of unexpected salivation is unpleasant when linked to nausea, so spitting some of it out briefly helps you feel better.
