It’s simply not necessary anymore due to technological advances. For example, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R has 315 horsepower and does 0-60 in about 5.3 seconds. You won’t be driving anywhere near that car’s limits on public roads. There’s no need for more horsepower.
There’s a lot more to a car’s performance than raw horsepower numbers.
Not sure where you’re looking there are tons of 500hp cars, like even Hyundai has a 400+hp genesis…HYUNDAI!, when I was a kid their offering was a 170hp tiburon.
You can get a factory 500hp sports cars at the mustang gt 350 level for like $60,000 now, when I was a kid you had to spend $150,000 worth of 90’s dollars to get a Lamborghini Diablo to not even crest over the 500hp mark and the interior sucked.
What you’re seeing for offerings is what the market can bear, hp is a lot cheaper than it used to be but it’s still not free, just between fuel consumption and insurance it never will be.
