Why does squeezing your thumb into a fist temporarily disable your gag reflex?

Edit: I’ve gotten comments asking if it’s true – I assure you it is and there have been posts in the past about it, but none of recent that I could find. I do this while brushing my teeth so I can get the back of my tongue where bad breath comes from.

The study targets a pressure point. It’s long been known that applying pressure to some nerves can affect your physiology, although I don’t know it is well understood.

I’m trying to imagine exactly where this point of.

First I wonder how many people just squeezed their thumb into a fist reading this? (Like that was gonna do anything), and second,, how many will be jamming dining into the back of their throat while doing it in the next few hours?
