why does squinting improve vision?

At least for me, I notice that when I squint, my vision becomes sharper. I don’t know if this is a common thing, but I’m curious as to why it happens

Fun fact : SLIGHTLY pressing your eyeball from above and below with your fingers also improve your far – vision. It happens because this causes your eyeball to be longer than usual, and so it focus the light better (only if you have any degree of nearsightedness)
