Why does sticking one foot out of the covers make you feel so much cooler?

It feels cooler because it makes you cooler. 😂

But seriously, when your body cools, it makes you sleepy, so when it’s bedtime, your body says “time to cool down!” and increases blood flow to your extremities, to sink away the heat. This is why you feel flushed (extra blood flow to head) and your feet and hands get warm. If you stick your foot outside of the covers, it aids in transferring heat away from your body (instead of trapping it under the covers).

You feel so much cooler because you’re helping your body cool itself.

Because your feet is in the open air to feel airflow compared to when it’s trapped under the blanket.

Blood flow. As blood circulates it will regulate closer to the local temperature. It’s one of the reasons our blood vessels dilate and contract according to conditions. Legs are one of the simpler ways to eliminate heat without endangering important organs.

Most heat is retained in the bottom of feet, palms of hands, and head, especially the forehead.

Not a medical professional. Feet have lots of blood vessels and not much fat. Lots of heat lost through your feet. Similar case with your head. I don’t know if this is a real saying, but I’ve been told that if your ears are cold, put on some socks.
