Why does stopping a vehicle you’re in cause you to jerk forward, even though motion is supposed to be relative (and the vehicle isn’t moving from your “physics” perspective)?

Inertia. You are moving as well as the the car. If you apply the car brake, the car slows (outside force causes body in motion to slow and stop) but the car brake does not slow you down. So wear a seatbelt.
