Why does stress make autoimmune conditions worse?

I know that extended periods of stress cause your body to release cortisol, which inhibits your immune response to save resources, so why is it that stress makes autoimmune conditions worse/flair up?

You’re entering a “fight or flight” stage.

During this time… your body converts ALL of its energy and capacities toward you handling one threat. You’re more worried about escaping from this buffalo thats charging on you than your date tomorrow, or that you’re hungry, or that you’re tired. Stress literally tells your body to drop everything it’s doing, and do what “needs” to be done.
