why does the car music pause when starting the engine?

You turn on the electricity, and the music starts playing. When you start the engine, the music has to pause for a brief moment before continuing after the engine has finished starting. Why is that?

The full voltage of the battery is needed when starting the engine. So basically:

* Engine off – Audio system runs off the battery
* Engine starting – Battery is powering the starter motor, all other electric items get cut off
* Engine on – Engine powers the car and charges the battery
