Why does the microphone not pick up audio of the person I’m speaking to?

The microphone won’t pick up any audio from a video call, but it would pick up audio from any other media, for eg, youtube. How does the microphone selectively ignore call audio?

Because the phone knows what audio it’s putting out. The microphone *does* pick up the sound coming from the speakers, the software just cancels it out.
