It isn’t the combination of the ingredients. You have to use a specific prescription cough syrup that contains Codeine. Codeine is an opiate. The sprite and Jolly Ranchers are just flavoring. It is the opiate in the Codeine that causes the high.

Cough Syrup is already a drug to start with. The other ingredients are just to make it more pleasant to overdose on cough syrup.

I’m not perfectly hip to my drug slang but it’s the cough syrup that’s key, the others are just sugar and flavor.

Normal over the counter cough syrup contains a drug that taken in high enough quantities causes you to hallucinate, maybe not the best high drinking decent amount of regular cough syrup will cause you to, medically speaking, “trip balls”.

Some cough syrups also include a pain reliever called codeine. Codeine is related to morphine and fentanyl and can be abused in much the same way. Due to the strength and ease of abuse, codeine containing cough syrups are only available with a prescription.

Over the counter cough syrup can contain Dextromethorphan (DXM). DXM taken in large enough quantities can get you high. I don’t recommend this, as all the other additives in the syrup will severely hurt you if you drink a bottle of the stuff.

OTC syrups can also contain a small amount of alcohol.

Prescription cough syrup can contain codeine, which is a different type of drug but it can also get you high as it’s a prescription pain reliever. Again, highly not recommended. Syrups have other active ingredients that will wreck your liver if you drink them in quantity.

Any other additive is just for flavor and funsies.
