why does the moon seem to “hover” during an eclipse?

So I know part of it has to do with the sizes of the Moon and Sun, what my tiny brain can’t figure out is if you see the Moon constantly moving across the sun until totality, why does it seem to hover in place for 4 mins or so? The Moon doesn’t seem to stay in place as it moves in or move away.

It keeps moving, but the Moon is slightly larger in the sky. You don’t notice it easily as there is no crescent to watch.
