You basically remember new or impressive thing. You can’t remember everything, you’d have to much info. So you remember new stuff. You used to experience a lot more new stuff when you were young. It seems like those years are packed with stuff. As adults we follow routines, and don’t remember most of it. We remember holidays, and other special moments. But the day to day as adults we don’t save. It’s not new or impressive enough. There’s no reason to save it in your memory.

Also, when a child, a year can be a 1/5th of your life. A month seems long, even a week. Even a month is a big chunk in what you live so far.
When you’re 50, a week goes by in a blink. You’re doing the same, not bothering to remember.
