Why does time seem to go so much faster when we get older?

Summer used to feel so long when we were young, this year it ended so quickly.
Is there a scientific explanation for this?

It’s as simple as looking at a ratio.

When you’re 5, a year is 20% of your life.

At 10, a year is 10% of your life.

When you’re 25, that same year is 4% of your life.

At 50, a year is 2% of your life, and if you live to be 100 years old, a year is a very fast 1% of your life.

Add in that at 5 and 10, it’s likely that you’re playing all summer, or vacationing, for a quarter of the year. At 25 and 50, you may have 3-4 weeks of vacation to spread through the year.
